Here are some details of the workshop, but please refer to the University website for all information and registration.
About the Workshop
Legal translation constitutes an important market in Qatar and abroad. Specialization in this field offers interesting professional prospects. Legal translation involves not only two languages, but two legal systems as well. Hence, this workshop starts with a general introduction to the legal systems in various Arab states and the English-speaking world, whereby attention will be paid to the ‘institutional aspect’ of legal translation, systemic terminology and idioms, as well as the socio-cultural aspects and frames of references necessary for accurate translations. Participants will also be introduced to the typology of legal documents from various legal systems. Documents from the registry office, court orders, summons, judgments, contracts and agreements will be translated in both language directions, in guided practice sessions.
