Today is the day when Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog who predicts the arrival of spring in Pennsylvania, USA, gives his forecast – in the little known language ‘groundhogese’ no less.

A couple of years ago, poor Phil was the subject of criminal charges for “purposely, and with prior calculation and design, causing the people to believe that spring would come early”. Luckily, he had good legal representation and, coupled with the Court’s severe difficulties in finding an interpreter, won his case.

A source close to the parties involved said “There are a lot of things to get serious about. Groundhog Day is not one of them.”
