Monday smile – Language barrier stops robbery

In this week’s news… a Chinese restaurant in the United States – Vermont to be precise – managed to avoid being robbed because the criminal didn’t get the message across.

The two owners reported that a man in a hood and scarf approached their mother as their restaurant was closing, holding his hand out as if simulating a gun and threw a note down demanding money. The mother, a Chinese speaker who doesn’t speak English, could not understand him, and he left, empty-handed.

As a defence, the robber’s lawyer tried to hold that there was no actual or threatened force… a judge disagreed. 🙂

Hat tip to Jeromobot for making me aware of the case.
