Since 1954, an order has prohibited flying saucers from passing over or landing in the municipality of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in France. (You may of course know the town for another reason…)

The best bit is that UFOs that get caught must be sent to the car pound.

Still in force, the order states:

« Tout aéronef dit soucoupe volante ou cigare volant qui atterrira sur le territoire de la commune sera immédiatement mis à la fourrière », prévient l’article 2 du texte. « Le garde champêtre et gardes particuliers sont chargés, chacun ce qui les concerne, de l’exécution du présent arrêté », ajoute l’article 3.

The current mayor refuses to repeal the law, noting that his predecessor had a great deal of foresight in addressing what is now a very current problem. 😊
