A classic on German legal linguistics

The innovative and dynamic RELINE legal linguistics network, that I have posted about before makes available a number of useful resources on its website. Today I’d like to bring your attention to some short videos presenting key books in the field.

In particular, a presentation by Anne Lise Kjaer, a leading expert in legal linguistics, of “Recht als Text” by Dietrich Busse. For Professor Kjaer, this book is important because it promotes an approach bringing together linguistics, jurisprudence and social science, where the institutional framework of law and the roles of judges, lawyers and lay parties in a trial are essential to understanding and analyzing the language of the law. Professor Kjaer also stresses the importance of text in a lawyer’s work.

Further details about the book, including the table of contents (click on “Read content”), can be found on the publisher’s website here.
