Conference – Communicating in Business, Cambridge, UK

800px-8118899-exterior3-maxStridonium, the international forum for professional linguists, will hold its one-day annual conference at the Møller Centre in Cambridge on 24 March 2014: Communicating in Business – Getting Language Right.

Stridonium was set up in 2009 as a venue for professional language specialists. Originally a private site for professional exchange and support for translators, it is now exploring alternatives to further the interests and raise the standards of the translation sector.

The aim of the Stridonium conference is to engage with businesses. It will emphasise to an audience of businessmen and language specialists the importance of getting language right and – maybe more importantly – point out the pitfalls of getting it wrong.

Stridonium’s initiative has the support of high-calibre speakers with backgrounds in politics, business and diplomacy, including former British Ambassador Sir Colin Budd, Director of the Centre for European Reform Charles Grant, Director at the Pyramid Group Jeff Heasman, and Consultant at Birketts LLP Andrew Wood.

All speakers will draw on their wide knowledge and a wealth of anecdotal experience to underline the value of effective communication and will highlight the benefits of:

  • setting company-wide language policy
  • effective legal and business communication
  • using the right language for effective advertising campaigns
  • avoiding cultural pitfalls
  • saving money by buying wisely

With companies of all sizes trading across borders, this message has never been more important. How many companies send the wrong image or lose sales because of poor or even inappropriate language?

This conference will impress upon businesses the benefits of giving language higher priority and will offer ideas on how to procure quality language services, what to look for and where to look.

The conference also offers ample opportunities for networking and includes a three-course lunch (please notify us in advance of special dietary requirements).
