Monday smile – Sneaky metaphors

magnifierToday I offer you a nicely ironic citation by Judge Benjamin N. Cardozo in the case Berkey v. Third Avenue Railway Co 244 N.Y. 602 (1927).

Metaphors in law are to be narrowly watched, for starting as devices to liberate thought, they end often by enslaving it.

How many can you spot? 😉

Even the subject involves a metaphor… it’s a veil piercing case. 🙂

.

hat tip copyHat tip to Miguel Angel Campos for bringing this to my attention.
