Call for proposals – Clear Writing for Europe 2023

The European Commission is inviting representatives and practitioners involved in plain language to present at this event which will showcase ways in which plain language can support European democracy and transparency through clear language.

The main conference will try to answer:

  • how plain language acts as a tool for democracy and outreach to the public;
  • how we can make clear writing the default setting, and use it to reach a wider audience (drawing together good practices from across the EU);
  • how can plain language help us communicate on complex topics like climate and energy.

Workshops on Day 2 will focus on tools, making information more accessible, and improving information design.

The conference will be an opportunity to:

  • raise awareness about the role of clear writing in helping to better engage and connect with citizens;
  • promote cooperation, improve knowledge sharing and exchange good practices.

The deadline for submitting proposals is 3 March.

The conference will take place on 23 May, with a half-day of workshops on 24 May.

Registration will open on 1 March.

Please note that this call for proposals is primarily for EU or international organisations, and practitioners from national administrations and universities.
