Talking nerdy – effective academic presentations

I think you will enjoy this short TEDTalk (less than five minutes) on how academics could communicate more effectively with the general public. Might also apply to lawyers too… 😉

The talk, entitled “Talk nerdy to me”, by Melissa Marshall, a faculty member with the Department of Communication Arts & Sciences at Penn State University, is actually aimed at academics in engineering and science, but I think it is equally relevant for people in all fields.

My take-away from the talk was this quotation (Albert Einstein):

Make everything as simple as possible, but no simpler.

  1. “(…) is actually aimed at academics in engineering and science, but I think it is equally relevant for people in all fields.” Not only applicable to lawyers and legalese, but also and most particularly, to corporatese… 🙂
