The Terminology Coordination Unit at the European Parliament makes freely available e-books on the theme of Terminology.
Regular readers will know my passion for clarifying abbreviations and acronyms, so I was particularly interested in a 161-page booklet published by the Federal Chancellery of the Swiss Confederation, entitled Official Federal Abbreviations, containing the abbreviations of the titles, structural units and forms of Swiss federal legislation and other legal texts in five languages (German, French, Italian, Romansh and English). It also covers the abbreviations of the names of the Swiss parliamentary, government and judicial authorities at federal level, as well as numerous bodies within the Federal Administration.
Various e-books can be downloaded from the Terminology Coordination Unit’s website here. Note that some are entire books, others are reviews or partial samples of books.
.
The 398-page Vocabulaire de l’économie et des finances included in the Terminology Unit’s selection comes from the French Ministry of Culture & Communication’s project FranceTerme:
Le site est consacré aux termes recommandés au Journal officiel de la République française. Il regroupe un ensemble de termes de différents domaines scientifiques et techniques.
Other glossaries apart from the above economy & finance include:
- droit
- relations internationales
- défense
- ingénierie nucléaire
- développement durable
- pétrole et gaz
- and so many more…
As well as French terms, the booklets also include ‘foreign equivalents’ (which mainly seem to be English). All of these resources are flagged as Open Data / Donnée Ouvertes; and the library of glossaries can be accessed here. Enjoy! 🙂
Thank you so much. I have been looking out for a dictionary on terminologies. This booklet is just it
