Webinar – Challenges facing the multilateral trade system

A webinar hosted by the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) on 29 June 2022 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. UK time will bring together experts at the WTO and in academia to discuss the results of the 12th session of the WTO Ministerial Conference (MC12) which took place on 12-17 June 2022 at the WTO headquarters in Geneva.

At the conclusion of the Conference, trade ministers from around the world adopted a historic package – including the reduction of fishery subsidies, a loosening of vaccine-production limits, and the mitigation of the impact of a global food crisis. The BIICL notes that it is a “historical alignment of the 164 WTO members”.

The agreements break the WTO’s seven-year negotiations downturn, after four years of attacks under former President Trump administration, the COVID-19 pandemic, drained supply chains, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
