After much questioning, wondering, and even more planning and organisation behind the scenes, I can reveal that I have a potential venue and programme for a WordstoDeeds conference

The Third Words to Deeds Conference 2022: Legal Translation and Risk

Dates: Saturday 5 to Sunday 6 February 2022.

Venue: Jesus College, Cambridge, UK.

From private messages sent to me over the last few months, it seems that many members of our community are keen to resume in-person events with all of the many benefits that they bring. I have considered waiting one more year or two, but who knows whether anything will have changed then. 

So… the purpose of this post is to ask you for expressions of interest. You can do this by clicking here [link removed 1 Nov 2021] and entering your name and email address.

• If by 31 October we reach the number needed to allow the conference to go ahead,
• the next step will be registration in two phases: 
  • a deposit of 25% by 15 November, 
  • and the remaining 75% to be paid by 31 December. 

The Venue has agreed to give us a 100% refund if due to government restrictions whether inside or outside the UK the conference had to be cancelled.

The College, which has the most stringent hygiene measures in place, has agreed to keep all of their conference facilities solely for our conference: guest accommodation*, dining areas and meeting rooms, thus making it even more secure.

I should stress to prospective attendees that your expression of interest at this stage is crucial – the logistics and organization involved mean that we simply cannot wait until the last minute. So, if by 31 October there are not enough expressions of interest, regretfully the conference will not be able to go ahead.

It has been a decision that has taken many long months of consideration, but I truly believe we can make this 2022 event the most successful yet, with resounding effects for our profession, and, as a non-negligeable side benefit, allow us to have the real joy of coming together with like-minded colleagues for a pleasant, friendly and productive conference in a secure setting.

*Attendance can be conference only, or conference + accommodation in college. If you are interested in accommodation, please be aware there are not enough rooms in the college for all participants. Priority will be given to delegates in order of joining the list of expressions of interest.
