On Monday 13 July 2015, I attended a presentation at the Law Society, in London, UK, by Andrea Orlando, the Italian Minister of Justice, about the current reforms of the civil justice system in Italy.
Temporary job opportunity – Translating for the European Commission
The European Commission is currently looking for translators into English from two source languages, the first one of which must be one of the following: Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian or Swedish.
The second source language must be different from the first source language and can be any of the languages mentioned above or French, German, Italian or Spanish.

Hello dear readers – here are the results of the poll I ran recently on the new mobile-friendly design for the blog.
The proportion of those in favour is 84%. I guess we therefore will keep it for the moment. However, as I am always seeking perfection, and as soon as financially possible (as you know, this is a not-for-profit venture!), I will commission a designer to do something even better.

Arabic translation – Call for chapters
I have been asked to make available a Call for Chapters for the forthcoming Routledge Handbook of Arabic Translation, edited by Sameh F. Hanna, Hanem El-Farahaty and Abdel Wahab Khalifa.
One of the editors published a groundbreaking book on Arabic translation earlier this year (see this post).
A wide range of themes are planned, including specialised translation from/into Arabic.
Stop press – Traineeships at European Parliament
The European Parliament offers several options for traineeships within its Secretariat, to provide opportunities for vocational training and for learning more about what the institution is and does.
The next deadline for applications is 15 May 2015 (midnight) for translation traineeships, and 1 June 2015 for general training placements, either as part of a course of study or on a non-compulsory basis.
