An online event entitled “Indigenous Languages and Legal Traditions” is to be held on Thursday 24 March 2022, from 13:00 – 16:30 (EST), on the occasion of the 15th annual Institute of Jurilinguistics.

Symposium – Realities of Jurilinguistics in Canada

For the 14th Annual Institute of Jurilinguistics, the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law and the three other Canadian centres of jurilinguistics — the Centre for Legal Translation and Documentation (Ottawa), the Centre de traduction et de terminologie juridiques (Moncton) and the Centre de ressources en français juridique (Saint-Boniface) — will join the McGill School of Continuing Studies to host the event, Realities of Jurilinguistics in Canada. on Friday 19 March 2021 from 1 pm to 4 pm Eastern Standard Time.

This bilingual event will explore the daily realities of balancing language and law in Canada, with sessions offered by professionals from diverse sectors related to jurilinguistics.

Guest post – Reporting from Montreal

It is my great pleasure to introduce a guest report on the Sixth Summer Institute of Jurilinguistics held at the end of August, written by Jean Leclercq, co-author of the erudite and multifaceted blog Le mot juste en anglais.

Leclercq trained both in literature and the law, and worked as a translator, from English and Spanish to French, at the headquarters of the World Health Organization in Geneva for 26 years. Retirement hasn’t stopped him translating, often on a voluntary basis, and keeping extremely active through various linguistic and online activities amongst others. A vous Jean !
