Call for papers – Canadian Symposium on Language and Law

A Canadian Symposium on Language and Law will take place at York University, Toronto, Canada from 16-18 June 2023.

The Canadian Symposium on Language and Law will draw together both researchers and practitioners from all areas of language and law (e.g., linguistics, psychology, sociolegal studies, policing, law) and those working within the often siloed subfields such as jurilinguistique, jurilinguistics, legal linguistics, and forensic linguistics, in order to build a research network that will facilitate the coalescence and growth of the field in Canada and will address Canadian justice issues. 15th Institute of Jurilinguistics, McGill University, Canada

An online event entitled “Indigenous Languages and Legal Traditions” is to be held on Thursday 24 March 2022, from 13:00 – 16:30 (EST), on the occasion of the 15th annual Institute of Jurilinguistics.

Seminaire – Linguistique forensique

The University of Nantes is hosting an online seminar with Julien Longhi on 21 May 2021 at 14.00 -16.00 CET. He will present the debate in France surrounding the use of forensic linguistics in the “Petit Grégory” case.

SOULL – Sources of Language and Law is an open online platform to provide selected information about past and recent research activities of legal linguistics.

It contains, among other things:

  • an international bibliography
  • a list of research groups
  • relevant journals
  • an extensive list of corpora.

Séminaire tournant francophone de jurilinguistique – saison 2021

With apologies to the organisers for late posting of this information – the season begins tomorrow 😱 … please note that this year’s round of  francophone seminars on jurilinguistics (online) has a great line-up of speakers and covers a wide range of subjects.

The series title is ““Stéréotypes de la langue juridique et dans la langue juridique” and dates extend from 19 February 2021 to 4 June 2021.

Call for Papers – Jurilinguistics II, Seville, Spain

After a successful first edition in 2016, the organisers have decided to continue their initiative in jurilinguistics, looking at “professionalisation in language and law and exploring new areas of study and research”.

The conference, entitled Jurilingüística II: Enfoques Interdisciplinarios en el Estudio de la Lengua y el Derecho / Jurilinguistics II: Interdisciplinary Approaches to the Study of Language and Law, will take place at Universidad Pablo de Olavide Seville, Spain, from 25-26 October 2018.
