The University of Porto, Portugal will host the 13th Biennial Conference of the International Association of Forensic Linguists on the theme of New Challenges for Forensic Linguists.
The conference, which is organized jointly by the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Law, aims to engage the participants in the debate of the new challenges for Forensic Linguists and Forensic Linguistics, and will be held from 10 to 14 July 2017.
The XXI FIT (International Federation of Translators) Congress will be held in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia from 3-5 August 2017. The emphasis will be on issues relating to disruption and diversification in all the fields of translation and interpreting.
The 2017 Congress will highlight the impacts of technology, globalisation, policy and economic change on the delivery of language services, with specific streams for indigenous and sign languages, interpreting in conflict zones, community interpreting and translation, and more.

The First Words to Deeds Conference 2017: Legal Translation to the Next Level
The Law and Society Association is organizing a conference entitled Walls, Borders, and Bridges: Law and Society in an Inter-Connected World from 20 to 23 June 2017 in Mexico City. It is the association’s is first ever meeting in Latin America.
The Tenth Cuba-Québec Symposium on Translation, Terminology and Interpretation will be held in Varadero, Cuba from 6 to 8 December 2016, and is organized by the Asociación Cubana de Traductores e Intérpretes (ACTI) and the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ).

The third edition of the Translating Europe Forum is taking place in Brussels on 27-28 October 2016.
Each year, the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission organises one or two days to gather translation stakeholders, discuss topics of common interest and stimulate cooperation across the EU and beyond.
For this guest post, I am delighted to welcome Danaë Hosek-Ugolini, a legal, business & shipping translator and experienced English solicitor who holds a diploma in legal studies from Oxford University and a Master’s in private law from the equally august University of Paris II. Her language pairs are French & Greek into English and Greek & English into French.

The International Language and Law Association (ILLA) will be relaunched in 2017, with a legal linguistics conference in memory of Peter Tiersma (1952–2014) entitled ‘Language and Law in a World of Media, Globalisation and Social Conflicts: Refounding the International Law and Language Association (ILLA) to make law more transparent‘.
It will be held from 7-9 September 2017 at the University of Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany.
The Sixth International Conference on Law, Language and Discourse will take place at the University of Haifa, Haifa, Israel from 1-4 August 2016. The theme is “The development of legal language and its interpretation: Linguistic and pragmatic aspects of the evolution of the synchronic understanding of legal texts”. Despite the proximity of the date, registration is still open.
Previous conferences held in China and Sweden have also examined the theme of how synchronous understanding of legal language and judicial interpretation has developed through history.
