Liens utiles en langue française (institutions)
To celebrate the Journée internationale de la Francophonie, (see yesterday’s post), here is a useful list of websites forming terminology resources in the French language, made available by the European Commission.
Demain: Journée internationale de la Francophonie
I am posting this today, to be sure that readers all across the globe are aware of the event in time. Tomorrow, 20 March 2015, there will be all kinds of events celebrating the French language worldwide.
The Journée internationale de la Francophonie forms part of a week-long event, Semaine de la langue française et de la francophonie, created in 1995 by the French Ministry of Culture & Communication.
Monday smile – On the tangible nature of fish
The American Courts have been mulling over the question of which fish are tangible or intangible.
Following an offshore inspection of a commercial fishing vessel which revealed undersized red grouper fish among its catch, a case went from District Court level up to the US Supreme Court to establish whether a fish was to be considered a “tangible object”.
The case has been followed by the excellent blog Language Log, and you can read more about the recent Supreme Court decision here (including links to the written opinions and oral arguments).

Volunteering – United Nations global study on legal aid
I have just been made aware of a volunteering opportunity for translators, published by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV), UNODC Justice Section.
“The Global Study on Legal Aid aims to gather information on national practices on the access to Legal Aid worldwide. The Study will be conducted by sending out surveys to Member States and individual experts. The task will involve translating the survey introduction and questions from English into various languages.”
