The IBFD International Tax Glossary is now in its 7th edition, published three months ago, in June. The publisher, the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD), is a leading authority on cross-border taxation.
The glossary is available as a printed book or as an eBook.
Although I’ve published this as a Monday smile, the recently published book entitled Le droit selon Star Trek actually makes serious points.
It has just won the Olivier Debouzy prize: “prix de l’agitateur des idées juridiques“.
The Handbook of Terminology has recently been published by John Benjamins. It is the first volume in a series of five, and is available as a print edition, a PDF e-book, and an online version.

Today being Friday, I thought a little fiction might be in order to round off our week of books.
I am a great fan of the series of detective novels written by Jean-François Parot (a diplomat and historian) and set in 18th century Paris, the hero of which is Nicolas Le Floch, Marquis de Ranreuil, commissaire au Chatelet.
This week’s third book is the recently published Arabic-English-Arabic Legal Translation, by Dr Hanem El-Farahaty, who is a Teaching Fellow at the University of Leeds, UK, an Associate of the Higher Education Academy, and a Lecturer at the University of Mansoura, Egypt.
Having been lucky enough to see Dr El-Farahaty presenting her work at a conference last year, I can give my own warm recommendation for this book.
The second book of the week is Legal Lexicography: A Comparative Perspective, published last month by Ashgate and edited by Máirtín Mac Aodha, Council of the European Union, Belgium.

Today I’d like to tell you about a volume published in 2013 – Legal Translation in Context: Professional Issues and Prospects, edited by Anabel Borja Albi and Fernando Prieto Ramos.
There are some books on the shelf that you consult regularly, and some that just sit there. The Dictionnaire des marchés financiers is one of the former. It lists financial terms in French, English, Dutch, Spanish and Italian.
The European Commission has recently published a report on Translation and intellectual property rights.
The law firm Bird & Bird LLP was commissioned for the study, which aims to provide an overview of some of the main intellectual property right issues relevant to the domain of translation, including in the field of machine-aided translations.
