Stop press – EU translation memories, 2016 release
As many of you know, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation and the Joint Research Centre make freely available translation memories which include the majority of the European Union’s legislative documents (Acquis Communautaire) and some other documents not forming part of the Acquis, in 24 EU languages.
The aim is to support multilingualism, language diversity and the re-use of Commission information.

Regular readers may know that one of my pet hates is acronyms and abbreviations… so whenever I see a list to help decipher them, it always pleases me. I recently came across this list, tucked in amongst the Interinstitutional style guide of the European Union.

The Terminology Coordination Unit (DG TRAD) is hosting a seminar on legal terminology starting at 9 am on Friday 29 November 2013, in the Schuman Hemicycle, on the premises of the European Parliament in Luxembourg.
Conference – Perspectives on the Unitary (EU) Patent System
The Institute of European and Comparative Law at the University of Oxford, and the ESRC Centre for Competition Policy at the University of East Anglia, present a conference entitled Perspectives on the Unitary (EU) Patent System, to be held on 4 & 5 October 2013, at the Ship Street conference centre, Jesus College, Oxford, UK.
The conference is CPD accredited by the Bar Standards Board and the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Calling Maltese candidates to be EU translators
Dr Ian Borg, the Parliamentary Secretary for EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds in Malta is calling for more Maltese candidates to apply for posts as translators and interpreters in European institutions.
More than 100 new monolingual, bilingual & multilingual glossaries
The Terminology Coordination Unit of the European Parliament has just updated its database of glossary links, with access to around 100 new glossaries.
