In the article below I wanted to provide some insights into the arcane world of the legal translator. The aim was to have some kind of go-to text that I could send people who have no idea what the profession is all about.

If you have a visual way of thinking, you might enjoy a new online tool called Visuwords™ which uses Princeton University’s WordNet, an open-source database built by students and language researchers.
It calls itself a “visual dictionary, visual thesaurus and interactive lexicon”.

A few days ago a decision was handed down in a case which was all about the Oxford comma. The New York Times reports on the class action between three truck drivers and Oakhurst Dairy in an article entitled “Lack of Oxford Comma Could Cost Maine Company Millions in Overtime Dispute“.
Very little imagination is needed to extend this to how crucial such things might be in translation.
