This post updates and replaces my 2012 compendium. As I haven’t found this kind of guide elsewhere, my aim is to give you a flavour of the legal translation, legal linguistics and legal interpreting courses available at universities worldwide.

The Białystok Legal English Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Białystok, Poland is organising its second workshop for teachers, translators and interpreters of Legal English: “Share & Gain“, to take place from 8-9 September 2016. The workshops bring together experienced and inexperienced teachers, translators and interpreters of Legal English to share their knowledge, ideas and experience.
A 25-hour introduction to forensic linguistics and judicial language is being offered by the University of Valladolid in Spain, with convenient hours for those who work – from 5pm during the week and on Saturday mornings. The short course will run on 26 & 27 February, 4, 5, 11 & 12 March 2016.
The WIPO Internship Program is open to students and graduates from all regions of the world, with a background in law, particularly in intellectual property, or in other fields relevant to WIPO such as science and technology, finance, human resources, economics, communications, information technology, translation and international relations.
The Syndicat national des traducteurs professionnels is organizing a two-day training course “Horizon justice française 6” to take place on 4 & 5 February 2016 in Montpellier, France. There are also optional visits of a prison and a criminal hearing on 3 February.
The Building Mutual Trust 2 project offers audio-visual training scenarios demonstrating best practice when working with suspects, defendants and witnesses through a spoken language interpreter.
The Centre for European Legal Studies at the University of Exeter, in conjunction with the Irish Centre for European Law, is holding a free one-day workshop on ‘Precedent in EU law: the linguistic aspect’ on Saturday, 5 December 2015 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Dun Library, Dublin, Ireland.
eCPD Webinars is organizing a “Dutch-English and English-Dutch legal translation course” on 13th October 2015 and 20 October 2015, in two sessions of 90 minutes each.
The Syndicat national des traducteurs professionnels is organizing a one-day training course to take place on 13 November 2015 in Aix-en-Provence, France. Registration by 17 October 2015 at the latest.
The Chamber of Commerce for Paris and Ile-de-France is offering introductory courses on international trade. There are two in particular that I think might appeal to people working with legal language…
